Mrs. Gulotta

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español!

¡Hola! I’m Señora Gulotta, and I’m excited to be teaching Spanish A, Spanish B, and Spanish C — Grades 6, 7, and 8 — at Wall Intermediate School.

In Spanish class, students build confidence through listening, speaking, reading, writing, partner activities, and real-life communication.

My goal is for students to feel comfortable using Spanish, taking risks, and learning about the people, places, and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Extra Help: Thursdays by appointment, before or after school. Please email me a few days ahead so I can confirm a time and room. I teach on a cart, so my room location may vary by period.

Spanish A • B • C

6th Grade — Spanish A
Students build their foundation in Spanish through communication, school life, family, home, food, and celebrations.

7th Grade — Spanish B
Students review and expand their Spanish while communicating about shopping, food, sports, travel, and culture.

8th Grade — Spanish C
Students use Spanish more independently through conversation, cultural study, projects, presentations, and real-world communication.

Course Guide & Class Expectations

Students received a Course Guide/Syllabus that explains class routines, expectations, grading, and important course information.

Students are expected to:

• Participate in class activities and practice Spanish as much as possible
• Be respectful and courteous to classmates and the teacher
• Complete classwork in a timely manner
• Use the Reference Guide and class resources when they need help
• After an absence, check their Spanish folder and class materials first, then see me for anything they missed
• Review vocabulary regularly rather than waiting until the night before an assessment

My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable trying Spanish, making mistakes, and becoming more independent communicators.

Materials Students Need

Please help students come prepared with:

• Pocket folder — provided in class
• Pen or pencil — daily
• 1-subject notebook — for Spanish notes and classwork
• Earbuds/headphones — for listening activities when needed
• Charged Chromebook — when we are using technology in class

The goal is not a large supply list — just making sure students have what they need to participate and stay organized.

Homework, Classwork & Absences

Homework is usually short and focused on reviewing or practicing what we are doing in class.

Students may be asked to:

• Review vocabulary
• Finish short classwork when needed
• Use study guides or review materials
• Practice with Quizlet, Blooket, Gimkit, or other class resources

Google Classroom may be used for announcements, resources, study materials, or assignments.

If a student is absent: when they return, they should check their Spanish folder and class materials first, then see me for anything they missed or need to make up.

A few minutes of regular review is much more helpful than waiting until the night before a quiz or assessment.

Grading & Genesis

Student grades are based on the following categories:

40% — Major Assessments
Tests, projects, and larger performance tasks

40% — Minor Assessments
Quizzes, mini-dialogues, and smaller performance tasks

20% — Independent Assessments
Classwork, homework, and participation

Genesis provides the most up-to-date grade information.

Grades are meant to reflect what students can understand, communicate, and show over time.

How Families Can Help

You do not need to speak Spanish to support your child’s success.

A few simple things make a big difference:

• Ask what they practiced in Spanish that day
• Encourage short, regular review instead of last-minute cramming
• Help them come prepared with their folder, notebook, pencil, earbuds, and charged Chromebook
• Encourage them to use their Reference Guide and class resources before giving up
• Check Genesis periodically for current grade information
• Reach out if you have questions or concerns

Confidence grows when students feel comfortable trying, making mistakes, and trying again.
