7th Grade Art Explorations
In 7th Grade Art, students get to experiment with a variety of materials, techniques, and artists to grow their creativity and confidence. This class introduces important art skills and gives students a chance to try out different mediums they might use in 8th grade. It also helps prepare them for the three art class options available in 8th grade by building a strong foundation through fun and engaging projects.

In 7th Grade Art Explorations, students will:

• Explore color theory and learn how to apply it using colored pencils and paint.

• Build on their 6th grade skills to improve drawing from observation through new techniques.

• Experiment with mixed media and how different materials can work together in a single artwork.

• Discover craft arts by working with fibers and learning how to manipulate them into creative designs.

• Learn how to turn 2D ideas into 3D forms by practicing basic sculptural techniques.

8th Grade Crafts & Design
This course builds on the foundation developed in 7th Grade Art by diving deeper into the world of craft and design. Students will work with a variety of materials and techniques to create functional and decorative artworks. Emphasis is placed on creativity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving as students explore fiber arts, mixed media, sculpture, and design-based projects. Crafts & Design is one of three art pathways offered in 8th grade, allowing students to further develop their artistic voice and prepare for future art opportunities.

In 8th Grade Crafts & Design, students will:

• Apply color theory through advanced use of paint, colored pencils, and other materials to enhance design work.

• Strengthen observational drawing skills with more refined techniques and greater attention to detail.

• Explore the creative potential of mixed media by combining materials in innovative and purposeful ways.

• Dive deeper into fiber arts by designing and constructing projects using weaving, stitching, and fabric manipulation.

• Transform 2D sketches into fully realized 3D artworks through hands-on sculptural and design challenges.

• Major Assessments – 50%
